We believe that the more you know, the healthier you will be, which is why our team takes the time to answer every single question we receive. You can always give us a call to ask whatever you like about your dental care, but before that, be sure to read through our responses to some of the most common questions we get every day.
A holistic dentist is one that considers the entire body when providing care. Instead of just focusing on the teeth, they use dentistry to improve the health of the entire patient, not just their mouth. This is why in addition to addressing common issues like cavities and gum disease, holistic dentists can also help patients with problems such as sleep apnea, TMJ disorder, and chronic headaches.
Biological dentistry stresses the use of non-toxic restoration materials for dental work and focuses on the impact that dental toxins and hidden dental infections have on overall health. Unlike the traditional approach, biological dentistry treats the teeth, jaws, and related structures with the assumption that the treatment affects the entire body. Traditional dental treatment moves away from disease while biological dentistry moves toward health.
Your TMJ, or temporomandibular joints, are the joints on either side of your jaw. TMD refers to temporomandibular joint disorder, which involves problems with the joints, muscles, neurological structures, and vascular structures of the jaw, face, and neck. TMD can cause chronic pain and damage if left untreated. Headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and facial pain can all be the result of TMD.
We take TMD very seriously at our Sunnyvale dental office. We believe in using dental care to provide you with complete overall function and health, and we can help you overcome chronic pain problems associated with TMD.
Dr. Langston prefers to avoid the use of metals at our Sunnyvale dental office. He has not placed a mercury amalgam restoration since the early 1980s. Instead, the material of choice is composite resin, which consists of quartz or porcelain particles embedded in a resin matrix. Crowns and bridges are made of ceramic or porcelain. In our dental office, we offer CEREC same-day crowns because Dr. Langston feels that this system is the most accurate for making crowns.
