We use biocompatible materials to repair teeth, but what exactly does that mean? Biocompatibility is a measure of how well a certain substance works with the human body. Biocompatible materials have the lowest risk of causing adverse reactions within the mouth or elsewhere in a patient’s body. An outstanding example of a biocompatible material is composite resin, which we use to fill in cavities. Unlike the traditional filling material, silver amalgam, composite resin is mercury-free and forms a secure bond with the tooth structure around it.
We often take the temporomandibular joint (jaw joint, commonly called the TMJ) for granted, but if it is not functioning well, it can cause an array of oral and overall health problems. The TMJ, located directly in front of the ears, is a complex joint that is controlled by muscles in your jaw. Even a slight imbalance or misalignment in it can lead to headaches, teeth grinding, neck pain, and a host of other symptoms. As a leader in the field of TMJ study and treatment, Dr. Langston uses conservative but highly effective therapies to correct TMJ problems and restore neuromuscular harmony for patients from Heath and the surrounding areas.
